About
Lisa is a PhD student in the Department of Communication at University of California, Davis. Prior to starting her PhD program in 2022, she earned her B.A. in International Studies at Emory University and M.Sc. in Politics and Communication at LSE.
Lisa's research focuses on supportive communication in the context of human-AI interactions, particularly in understanding how people use digital technologies to seek and provide social support. She explores how AI, mainly chatbots, can act as facilitators in providing social support within health and general well-being contexts. Her recent projects include examining the various roles that chatbots are best suited for as support providers, communication competency of chatbots in advice-giving interactions, and the power dynamics between humans and AI in these support exchanges. She is interested in examining how AI-driven tools and technologies can be integrated into support systems to improve outcomes and their role in mediating interpersonal communication. Lisa is advised by Dr. Bo Feng.
